Things to Do
It is rightly said that Americans are always on the forefront of the most exciting activities that modern life has to offer. Each personal preference will find its perfect match somewhere in rural and urban America, of which the following are just a few examples.
Let’s start with music because it is a universal aspect of life. Major concerts of big-name superstars are always happening in cities with genres from classical music to heavy metal. America, after all, is the land of the trendsetting Grammys and Hollywood so music is an integral part of life here.
Be sure to watch marching bands festivals, which happen virtually every weekend throughout the country. Marching bands also perform during sports events including but not limited to baseball, basketball and football. Keep in mind that many American athletes are champions of the world so you can watch virtually any sports after your own heart.
America is also a country of rural roads and back roads. Take to the off-beaten path to discover rural Americana. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of its geography. Meet its people whose history in the land is as rooted as the giant sequoia trees.
Holidays to Enjoy
Americans are a fun-loving people so it comes as no surprise that the holidays, celebrations and festivals are aplenty in the land of milk and honey. The entire nation celebrates Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day, all of which are marked by family and friends gathering together to partake of food, enjoy the fireworks and just relax.
Thanksgiving Day, Easter Sunday and St. Patrick’s Day are also widely celebrated. Each religion also marks its own holidays although many are not observed on a nationwide scale. Christmas Day, Hanukkah and Eid ul-Fitr are celebrated with Christmas more visible than the latter two.
Every small town and big city has its own festivals. Plan your itinerary so that you can participate in these festivals, say, the NYC Oktoberfest.
Places to See
Running out of places to see in the United States is unimaginable! Its millions of square miles of cities, countryside and small towns along with its extremes of natural landscapes from glaciers in Alaska to tropical paradises in Hawaii offer plenty of playing ground for everybody with the wanderlust.
For communions with Mother Nature, the country has plenty of national parks like Acadia, Denali, Everglades and Yellowstone. Go horseback riding, ride all-terrain vehicles, hop on a bike, hike through the forest, and just take in the majesty of nature. Or take to the trail via the National Trails System that spans over 50,000 miles and suitable for mountain biking, camping and horseback riding.
Or hop into a car and go on the Great American Road Trip. You will soon enjoy the different flavors of the rural and urban areas of the nation that makes it what it is now – a beckon for travelers in search of something that only they can explain.
